History
This clan is filled with mystery and rumors.

The Izumi clan is rumored to have originated around Getsugakure, though they have always been obscure and reserved. There is debate whether the clan ever existed with no official records of them anywhere. With what little information is provided, those in Izumi are recognizable by their black hair, eyes, and affiliation to the moon. Other possible recognizable traits to be noted are claw-like nails and sharp fanged teeth. These are not confirmed in all Izumi.

The Izumi are said to be nature-esque, preferring to live in nature rather than within a village as it makes them feel closer to the moon. Sightings have been reported over the years of them, saying they looked wild and disheveled. Most of these sightings have been during the nights of full moons and generally during trips into the Land of the Moon's forests.

The only known Izumi on record at Getsugakure is infamous Yin Izumi. Some argue that the Izumi bloodline is not, in fact, a bloodline, but only a "potential" bloodline, as Yin alone does not confirm it is genetically-based. It is debated whether the Izumi bloodline is, in fact, genetic or if it's a unique ability to Yin Izumi.

There's further rumor that the Izumi clan was killed off, leaving Yin as the only survivor. It puts a hamper on studying this elusive clan, but there is no confirmation that this rumor is true despite the lack of sighting an Izumi since Yin's appearance.

The Izumi has consistently been confused with the Nara clan due to its use of darkness manipulation. Researchers have claimed the two are correlated and maybe are distant cousins, but nothing substantial proves this claim, especially considering the Izumi's kekkei genkai is very distinct from Nara's hiden techniques. The only similarity is that the Naras use shadows, which can often be confused and intertwined with the concept of darkness.

There is also the fact that if the Izumi's technique is a dojutsu kekei genkai, then it severs any potential of being connected to the Nara's hiden techniques. Another factor against this theory is the Izumi clan is culturally different from the Nara clan and has very obviously originated near Getsugakure, which is an isolated island in the Land of the Moon. This is proven by the fact the only sightings of the Izumi are in or around Getsugakure. Meanwhile, the Nara clan originated in Konohagakure, which is a substantial distance from the isolated island.

Culture & Traditions

The Izumi Clan
 • Izumi is a ninjutsu/genjutsu primary clan with heavy emphasis on genjutsu. The clan prides itself in its members knowing Yin release.
 • Common elemental affinities for Izumi are Doton (Earth) or Suiton (Water). It's said to be because of their nature-esque nature for Doton, and their affiliation with the moon for Suiton. Whether this bears any truth or is simply a product of cultural belief is unknown.
 • Females are dominant, but the birth of a male is celebrated due to the disproportionate amount of females vs males. Females are focused on for warriors. While being taught to fight, and to fight ferociously at that, they're also taught the art of seduction. Izumi tend to be better assassins than combat fighters. Males are also taught to fight, but are more encouraged into positions like medic nins.
 • While there is obviously variation, a standard personality among Izumi females has them exhibiting a hot-temper, aggression, and being very forward and sexually charged. Male Izumi, on the other hand, are noted to be more subdued, laid back, and domestic. This could be due to their societal dynamic, but no conclusive study has been done to confirm the phenomenon.
 • Non-royal clan members would use this alternative marker instead of the one shown above.
 • Izumi have an affiliation to the moon that's not well understood. While it is noted their bloodline becomes stronger, Izumi also become full of life and spirit when basking in a moon's light. It makes even the most uncharacteristic of characters energetic. Moon basking, while noted to increase their chakra production, also is shown to heal them. Theorized due to the fact the moon fills with them chakra. This healing is strongest during a full moon and non-existent during a new moon. Full-blooded Izumi heal faster and more than those of mixed blood. Either way, the more severe the wound, the slower it heals. This endangers them to dying by their wounds or bleeding out and isn't considered an effective healing method.

Jutsus
Name: Iyashino Gekkō no Jutsu [Healing Moonlight Technique]
Rank: A
Range: Self
Class: Supplementary
Handseals: 1

Capitalizing and expanding on an Izumi's natural tendency to heal under moonlight, this technique makes this tendency more effective in nature. When allowed naturally, the healing process is slow and slows even further the more severe the wound. This endangers them to dying by their wounds or bleeding out and isn't considered an effective healing method.

Using this jutsu as a supplementary to that, it speeds up the process and gives the user control of what to heal, causing the user to be capable of healing internal injury or focusing on more severe wounds.

It requires an Izumi to bask in the moonlight, and thus doesn't work during a new moon or during the day. The more full the moon is, the more effective the healing.

So, the revolution wasn't going so well. Their fearless leader Shin Uchiha was down for the count. His creepy clones left him behind and were now being raised in an orphanage. There were maybe...two or three others involved? Yeah, it wasn't going very well. Yin pursed her lips and huffed with displeasure. She couldn't believe she'd just been dragged into a revolution just to watch it die off in an instant. Sure, she hadn't originally wanted to be a part of it. She hated Shin Uchiha and his sick obsession. But now she felt it was her duty to keep his idea alive - reviving the Akatsuki. The first step was letting whoever was out there know their leader was gone. Yin sent out an old-fashioned carrier pigeon letter to multiple locations that she believed her allies may be lying in wait.

Now she found herself on the outskirts of Konoha following the tweets of a distressed bird. She came upon the pigeon trapped in wiring carelessly left in a tree.

"There you are," She muttered. Yin jumped up onto the branch, pulling out a kunai as she did. She grabbed the wiring and began cutting it away. "This is what happens when you're careless. Didn't you look where you were going? Yeesh."

Yin pulled the pigeon free of its prison. She held it in the palm of her hands and inspected it for injury. Looks like it can still fly... Good. Yin threw the bird into the air, watching it spread its wings and take flight. Now she only hoped her message would reach someone. Anyone.

I can't waste too much time. I have to get to the meeting spot.

Yin stood, placing her hand against the tree trunk. She gazed out at Konoha, feeling a slight twinge of nostalgia. This was the village she'd left her son in. She'd hoped it would raise and nurture him into a fine shinobi, but instead he now wandered as a rogue just as she did. Yin couldn't help but feel some anger. "So much for being wonderful, eh...?"

Jun 24 2018, 09:31 PM
The message was sent out weeks prior - Shin Uchiha was no more. Yin called the others to one of their remote hideouts, hidden behind a large boulder with a seal only they could open. The hideout was chilly and moist. Water dripped from the top of the cavern and nearby was a small stream. Yin kept her cloak pulled against her person to fight off the chill. Hanging around there, she wasn't sure what she expected. The newly "revived" Akatsuki was paltry at best. For all she knew the others jumped ship after receiving her message. If she were the only one left, so be it. Yin decided she'd pick up the work and begin recruitment. Now that she finally accepted her position in the Akatsuki (which she'd initially found distasteful due to its leader), she wasn't about to let the organization die again. She needed it for her own purposes. As she sat atop a rock she sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. Yin never wanted to lead this rodeo. She never wanted to lead anything.Responsibility was uncomfortable for someone who was a free spirit. She'd decimated responsibility long ago back when she turned her back on her village. Still, the concept seemed to always find her in the end.

Maybe no one is coming, She thought, closing her eyes. Really, that may be for the best. Who knows who Shin Uchiha dragged into his mess. Yin pursed her lips. She'd never met any of the others, if there were others. The only person she'd interacted with was Shin. And honestly? The man was creepy. She was thankful to never get too close to him. In all reality, she might've felt too tempted to carve out his sharingan eyes one at a time. Her stomach knotted with disgust. Sharingan, what a cheap method to use in battle. One thing she never understood was the man's obsession with that clan. Her obsession with it was much different, and much more murderous in its intention.

"I suppose I'll give it a little more time," Yin muttered to herself. From her pouch she pulled rice balls wrapped in paper. Unwrapping them, Yin took one and bit into it and groaned, "How lame...This whole situation is lame."

Had she ever seen herself taking this path? No. Her path was supposed to be a simple one. She took her revenge on her village and now she was supposed to be somewhere nice - like the Land of Hot Springs - relaxing and drinking sake. Instead her life was nothing but a roller coaster that never seemed to end. It felt like a curse. Yin idly rubbed the strange marking on her left cheek. Maybe it was a curse. She was damned to this kind of a life. Still, she wasn't at all poor at it. Though she found it troublesome, Yin was quite good at what she did. It'd be a shame to let such skill go to waste. That is what she tried to comfort herself with, but the images of relaxing in a hot spring caused her despair. That is where she was supposed to be, not in this cold, dripping cave waiting for god knows who.

"It's more like someone better come soon so I don't lose my mind," She grumbled to herself. "I can't take this isolation. Oof!"
